season 4 ep 3

So they got to dress a (ex-)baller!

So many of the designers had minimal (at best) exposure to menswear prior to this, which can only make me ask... are we supposed to just do hefty bags or some such mess while the ladies have all the fun?

Core competencies (or the lack thereof) will win or lose most challenges. Menswear, frankly, is not a core competency of much of this contestant pool - and it showed (Carmen's shirt-that-wasn't was just the most glaring example ...of a bunch of glaring examples!).

I know her attempt at menswear was a MESS, but I was actually kind of shocked that Carmen got the the boot. With all the time they spent on Sweet P this episode, I thought for sure she was a goner. Then when it came down to Carmen and Ricky, I was like, "Oh, obviously they're going to kick Ricky auf." But no. And then he cried. Again.

He's still a total bitch, but Christian is friggin' hilarious. When he was carried into the workroom in a bag, I almost peed. Between him and Steve ("It's the only time spandex is alloooooowed..."), I can't stop smiling while watching. Like, I pretty much laugh out loud anytime they say anything. I love that.

Eirikur, where is that link to Jay's blog you sent me? I want everyone to share in the fabric croissants.

I'm gonna miss seeing Carmen "Like the Opera", Webber "Like the Baller"'s fabric croissants. All of you should read Jay McCarroll's blog entries on Elle.com, even if you don't like him, because they're hilarious.

Honestly, I wasn't crazy about this episode. I didn't like Jack's "winning" design. Wasn't the fly kind of effed-up? Maybe I'm projecting since my supervisor won't stop talking about how he and Jack used to date and I'm so tired of hearing about Jack while at work.

Elisa has totally grown on me like a weird heart-shaped fungus. I thought it was so cute how shy she was with her model. Not wanting to see him undressed or even touching him in an "intimate" fashion. I've gone ahead and printed out a picture of Elisa, framed it and it now sits on my desk.

I wanted Ricky to go. But reality TV loves criers. The only thing I remotely liked about his outfit was the lining of the jacket. BTW-- you'd think he could have taken 30 seconds and blackened the safety pins with a sharpie so they wouldn't reflect the light. (Note to all future contestants.)

Sweet P's shirt with the screwed up collar, the awful puckered seams on the sleeves and the 36" tie was hilarious. It reminded me a bit of the "A Shirt Story" episode from The Cosby Show. Remember?

I know a lot of people were bored last week with the SJP Bitten challenge.

But I was REALLY, TRULY bored on this one.

Im actually not into watching crappy suck sloppy suits go down the runway. Then, with everyone whining they hadnt done mens wear before...call me crazy, but if I got chosen for PR, I would start learning on making menswear on the likelihood that its going to come up.

There was so much boring suckyness this episode.

I've got to agree...that whole episode last night was one hot mess.

BUT...it was still more entertaining than anything else on at 10 pm et on a Wednesday night!

FWIW...I thought Stephen was robbed last night. His offering was fab (imho).

and yes, christian being carried into the workroom in a muthafucken TOTE BAG by superman was friggin hilarious. i think they are totally girlfriends on the show and i'd love to see their interactions a bit more.

Boring or not, the hot, semi-nude male models made it worth watching!

This episode proved how inept most of them are at Draping 101!
They were all provided with professional men's suit mannequins and still can't figure out how an armhole or a collar should drape?
And Jack's inability to make a pattern from an existing garment without taking the damned thing apart was a major red flag for lack of skills. Or an excuse to take his pants off on camera???

Anyone wanna manage my store for a month while I go do Season 5? I'm taking applications now!

                Vicki-
                You're my new fave...
Yes, let's not forget. Half naked men and homo designers trying not to get all hot and bothered.

this episode was super funny to me for the sheer fact that a major ball player was before them and none of them (well mostly none of them) knew who he was, compared to last week when they where all jumping up and down and crying like school girls over SJP!!!

i guess you really have to see the clothes in person like the judges do in order to understand why they choose the winners and losers as they do. because i thought the one who did the purple shirt, vest, tie and pant (Heidi called it "very David Beckham") should've won.

                    > a major ball player was before them and none of them

Im not suprised that they didnt know him.

Hell, I had never seen or heard of him before in my life until that show.

They are fashion designers and a big part of Sex and the City was its fashion...so of course they all would know who SJP was.
